At The BHB, we do things a little differently. Unlike many wig brands, we pre-cut the lace fronts on all of our wigs before they arrive to you. Because we have professional hairstylists in-house, we’re able to expertly customise each lace front in advance, which is something many brands can’t offer due to not having qualified wig specialists on hand.
Pre-cutting the lace makes the wig process so much easier for our clients. It removes an extra step and allows you to pop your wig straight on with minimal prep. That said, if you'd like to trim the lace on your BHB wig further back, you absolutely can.
We always recommend leaving a small amount of lace before the knots begin. This helps prevent the wig from fraying into the hairline or lifting over time. It’s always safer to leave slightly more lace than you think you’ll need. Because our wigs use invisible lace, once the wig is applied and sitting against your skin, the lace becomes virtually undetectable. As a guide, leaving around ¼ to ½ an inch of lace works best. We recommend starting with ½ an inch and trimming gradually if needed. Over time, lace can naturally fray slightly due to tension and wear, so leaving a little extra gives you room to trim again later if necessary.
To trim your lace, you’ll need a very sharp pair of scissors and hair clips. You may also want tweezers and a white eyeliner pencil or wig pencil for marking a guideline if you wish. We recommend trimming the lace with the wig off your head and lying flat on a clean surface. This allows you to see all angles clearly and gives you better control while cutting.
1. Clip Away Any Hair
Secure any stray hairs away from the lace before cutting. This helps prevent accidentally snipping the hairline and creating shorter strands around the face. If you do accidentally cut any hairs, don’t worry; simply use tweezers to pluck them out from the lace.
2. Mark a Guideline (Optional)
If you'd like extra precision, use a white eyeliner pencil or wig pencil to lightly draw a cutting guideline before trimming.
3. Keep Tension on the Lace
As you cut, gently hold tension with your fingers to create a smooth, seamless edge.
For a cleaner, blunter finish, glide the scissors flat across the lace while keeping an even distance from the hairs all the way around.
Some people prefer a more textured, natural-looking edge and use pinking shears or cut a zig-zag pattern into the lace to create a subtle finish, which can help the lace blend even more naturally against the skin.
4. Take Extra Care Around the Ear Tabs
Go slowly and carefully around the ear tabs, as these areas can be trickier to shape neatly.
