At The BHB we understand the cost of a new wig can be high, so we have compiled all the financial assistance available to you, to help with your new hair purchase.

There is a range of financial solutions available to you within Australia; listed below are the various grants and rebates you can apply for.

Private health funds may give you a rebate on your human hair wig for medical purposes such as Alopecia, Trichotillomania or Chemotherapy.

The rebate will vary between the different health funds and will also depend on your level of cover. It is best to check with your private health fund on what rebate they will provide you.

At The BHB we supply tax invoices outlining your wig is for medical reasons and this can be provided to your health fund. If your health fund also provides you with an item number, this can be added to your invoice.

Under the ATO taxation ruling TR93/34 you may be eligible for an income tax rebate on the purchase of your medical wig. .

“Medical or surgical wigs for use by a person which is necessitated by loss of hair through sickness or disease (other than naturally occurring baldness) or the effects of the treatment of sickness or disease”

Ruling TR93/34 is as per below:
1. This Ruling explains the meaning of a 'medical or surgical appliance'
in paragraph (f) of the definition of 'medical expenses' in subsection
159P(4) of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936.

2. Section 159P allows a rebate for net medical expenses exceeding $1,000.
Net medical expenses includes payments for a 'medical or surgical
appliance' prescribed by a legally qualified medical practitioner.

​For further information it is best to contact your accountant on how to claim your tax rebate.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Enable NSW offers $1600 human hair wig subsidies to approved applicants with Alopecia. Evidence must be supported including a letter from your
doctor. The process can take around 3-6 months.

SWEP may contribute to the purchase of your human hair wig.

 TASMANIA 
Financial assistance may be available for those who suffer from alopecia
who have a doctors referral and hold a DHA Pensioner or healthcare
card. 

​SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The Department for Families and Communities (DFC) equipment program supplies wigs or contributes towards the purchase of wigs for eligible applicants.

Unfortunately at this stage Western Australia, Queensland, Northern Territory, and
the Australia Capital Territory don’t provide any relevant government subsidies.

(18 years and younger)

​At The Beautiful Hair Boutique we work closely with The Australia Alopecia Foundation and Variety The Children's Charity who both very generously offer grants for our human hair wigs for kids. 

​The AAAF offers a $700 grant on wigs for persons 18 years and under - you can apply here online.
The application process takes around 1-2 weeks. The AAAF will send you a voucher which you will pass onto The BHB and we will take this off the cost of your wig, or refund it to you if you have already paid for the wig in full.

​Variety - The Children's Charity
Offer a grant which covers the full cost of a Human Hair Wig (up to $6,000) to approved applicants 18 years and under, every 12-24 months months. The application process takes around 2-6 weeks.
