Private Health Insurance
Private health funds may provide a rebate towards a medical wig where hair loss is the result of alopecia, trichotillomania, chemotherapy or another medical condition. Rebate amounts vary by fund and level of cover, so it's worth checking your policy or calling your provider directly.

Tax Rebates
Under ATO taxation ruling TR 93/34, wigs made necessary by hair loss from sickness or disease (as distinct from natural baldness) may be eligible for a tax rebate when prescribed by a medical practitioner, once net medical expenses pass the relevant threshold.

Enable NSW offers a subsidy of up to $1,600 towards a human hair wig, with evidence of alopecia and a doctor's letter. The process typically takes 3 to 6 months.
Victoria

The State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) may contribute towards the cost of a wig purchase.
Tasmania
Tasmania
Financial assistance is available for alopecia sufferers who provide a doctor's referral and hold a DHA Pensioner or Health Care Card.
South Australia

The Department for Families and Communities equipment program can supply or contribute towards the cost of a wig.
WA, QLD, NT & ACT

At this stage there is no dedicated state-based wig subsidy in Western Australia, Queensland, the Northern Territory or the Australian Capital Territory. If that changes, we'll update this page, so it's always worth asking our team for the latest.
Wigs for Kids Grants
We partner with the Australia Alopecia Foundation (AAAF) and Variety - The Children's Charity to help families access funding for a child's wig.
AAAF offers a $700 grant, usually processed within 1 to 2 weeks. Variety can cover the full cost of a human hair wig, up to $6,000, every 12 to 24 months, with a 2 to 6 week processing time.
